For more than 80 years, Myrtle Palmquist and Ginger Falk have been best friends. Now, both are neighbors at Emerald Crest by Augustana Care, a memory care community in Minnetonka. The night Myrtle moved in, she and Ginger had a sleepover party. They continue to share confidences, jewelry and more—and always dine together. Their daughters believe the women’s longstanding friendship has an especially positive effect on their lives.
The special friendship between Myrtle and Ginger makes life fuller for both of them while defying stereotypical notions about people in memory care. “Once we start seeing them in terms of capabilities, we can devise activities that reflect their passions and personalities.
