A Novel Approach to Memory Care

We are pleased to share an article from Good Age magazine that features Emerald Crest by Augustana Care’s approach to memory care. You can see there is something different about our setting as soon as you arrive. Each Emerald Crest house consists of twelve to fifteens suites arranged around a central living and kitchen area, with soothing colors and furniture arrangements.

The Emerald Crest model of care was developed in 1998 by Joe Guertin and Greg Getchell, who brought more than 25 years of experience in designing and operating eldercare communities to Emerald Crest. Guerin and Getchell found that people with memory challenges fare better in smaller, home-like residences that are easier to manage and navigate.

In 2010, Emerald Crest was purchased by Augustana Care. We have continued to serve those in need of memory care through the model of care created by the community’s founders.
